Sherwin Brands Release 2025 Colors of the Year

As the end of this year draws closer, several paint and coatings brands from The Sherwin-Williams Company have selected their 2025 Colors of the Year.

Valspar

Valspar, from the Sherwin-Williams Consumer Brands Group, has unveiled blue hue Encore 8002-45G as its 2025 Color of the Year. Encore is described as a versatile shade that can inspire projects indoors and out, transcending evolving styles and fast trends.

“Encore is a color for any space or application. Its atmospheric deep blue tones emulate both the elusive luxury of Old World design and the futuristic blending of our physical and digital world, making it a color that feels familiar and unexpected at the same time,” said Sue Kim, Director of Color Marketing at Valspar, in an emailed press release. “This makes it an ideal backdrop to ground a room, leaving space for spirited pops of complementary colors. Encore’s versatility means it also can shine on its own through playful applications inside and out, such as on wood, decks or concrete pavers.”

According to Valspar, almost every one of its paint products can be tinted in this color, including a variety of interior, exterior, cabinet and furniture, metal and concrete paint and stains. From interior walls, cabinets and furniture to exterior decks, sheds, concrete and more, Encore reportedly invites both novice and experienced DIYers to build an environment in which artistry and imagination abound.

Valspar explains that modern design is embracing “new-stalgia” by fusing blasts from the past with contemporary techniques, whether pairing traditional hues with bold new applications such as color-drenching or adding bespoke decor from artisanal makers. As a result, these interiors intermingle styles, techniques and eras for a look that feels both fresh and reminiscent.

“With everyday stress reaching a crescendo, we are often compelled to build peace and restoration into our routines, lifestyles and surroundings,” said Kim. “Encore allows us to reach for more as we reclaim our imaginations and embrace a more joyful version of adulthood. From form to function to color, our home is a place where we rejuvenate and find happiness with our family, friends and community.”

Valspar recommends accentuating Encore in spaces by layering in shades that share its enduring qualities like Lavender Escape 4002-7B, Sprig of Sage 8004-28D, Gosling 8007-4F and Graceful Gray 8006-2E. Additionally, the brand says users can construct a “fully immersive feel” through the following applications:

-Tonal Color Harmony: From modern to heritage revival home styles, a fully immersive color design approach inspires casual modernity and has become a signature style at home. While the base color provides personality and tone when applied to all elements of a space from the walls to furniture and decor, the textures in a room provide a restorative tactility. To achieve this look, pair Encore with complementary blue hues like Moroccan Resort 8002-45F, Peyton 8002-45E, Paradise Found 8002-45D, Moonglow 8002-45C, Blue Prism 8002-45B and Blueberry Ice 8002-45A; and
-Tonal Maximalism: Achieve tonal maximalism through monochromatic interior design, also known as color-drenching, by applying Encore to every element in a space. This design approach brings a clean, crisp aesthetic infused with softness and a bit of longing for times gone by.

To help consumers experience the collection in their own homes, HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams is collaborating with recently launched innovative AI-powered home visualization tool Palazzo. Using artificial intelligence, Palazzo’s technology reportedly curates a selection of design ideas and finishes that align with users’ visions by interacting with the platform's AI-powered design assistant, Vinci.

Palazzo was founded by tennis champion and entrepreneur Venus Williams, alongside Raffi Holzer and Edward Lando. It is described as unique in the digital design space in that users can upload photos of their actual spaces and leverage Vinci’s capabilities to provide customized designs for those rooms.

The collaboration marks the first paint and coatings brand to join the platform, which will exclusively highlight colors within the “Naturally Refined” palette. As part of this partnership, all nine permanent Color Collections by HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams will join the platform through January 2025.

“We are thrilled to partner with HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams to bring their Color Collections directly into the homes of our users,” said Raffi Holzer, Co-Founder of Palazzo. “This collaboration seamlessly integrates our advanced AI capabilities with HGTV Home by Sherwin-William's trend-setting aesthetics. “By leveraging our platform's unique features, such as the ability to upload photos of actual spaces for personalization, we're not just showing potential—we're transforming how people experience and interact with color in real-time, ensuring they can visualize and achieve their desired space with confidence and ease.”

Dutch Boy Paints

Dutch Boy Paints, part of the Sherwin-Williams Consumer Brands Group, has unveiled a medium tone blue with subtle yellow undertones as its 2025 One-Coat Color of the Year, as well as its full Color Trends Forecast for the year.

Mapped Blue (429-5DB) was reportedly selected in response to growing consumer interest in spaces that promote well-being and longevity. According to Dutch Boy, its stylish hue and adaptability allow it to complement a wide range of colors and design aesthetics, making it an ideal choice for those seeking to craft interiors that reflect their tastes.

“Our 2025 Color of the Year, Mapped Blue, is more than just a trend: it's a reflection of changing consumer values,” stated Lisbeth Parada, Color Marketing Manager for Dutch Boy Paints. “We're seeing a significant shift, particularly among Millennials and Gen Zs, toward products that offer durability, functionality and timeless aesthetics. Mapped Blue answers this call, providing a classic yet modern charm that can adapt to various design styles and stand the test of time.”

To complement the hue, Dutch Boy’s color experts curated three one-coat color palettes that “balance classic appeal with modern sensibility,” including the:

-Tailored Palette: Effortlessly blending traditional and modern elements, this inviting color scheme starts with a simple White (003W), as well as a warm Timber (411-4DB) that beautifully balances the coolness of Mapped Blue (429-5DB) and offers a dose of elegance with Anchored Blue (434-7DB);
-Essential Palette: This palette embraces functional simplicity with soft Antique White (011W), modern Stemmed Green (330-4DB) and warm Smoked Copper (306-5DB). Together with Mapped Blue (429-5DB), these colors combine to create balanced, contemporary interiors that support a slow-living lifestyle while maintaining aesthetic appeal and practicality; and
-Captivate Palette: Merging digital experiences with home comfort, this palette combines White Linen (007W), vibrant Honey Hive (213-4DB) and deep Midnight Bliss (338-6DB) with Mapped Blue (429-5DB) as the anchor, to create an immersive environment ideal for connectivity, escapism and relaxation.

In addition to interior applications, Mapped Blue can also be added to home’s exterior. Dutch Boy recommends pairing it with natural stone or brick, or its exterior wood stain in Butterscotch (914-1DB), to add a pop of warmth that creates a welcoming atmosphere.

“Our 2025 One-Coat Color Trend Forecast, with Mapped Blue at its core as Color of the Year, reflects the evolving needs of today's homeowners,” said Michelle Bangs, Senior Brand Manager, Dutch Boy Paints. “Through these three thoughtfully curated palettes, we hope to empower DIYers to create spaces that are both personally meaningful and enduring.”

The company adds that the color will also be available in Dutch Boy’s new and improved Platinum Plus interior paint formula.
